RATINGS

This site does not use ratings.

What used to be a 1 to 10 point rating has turned into a 7 to 10 point rating, and anything below that is "automatically terrible" by audience consensus. To me, 5 out of 10 is just 'average' being neither good or bad, alas the gaming press and many modern gamers think otherwise.

Instead we use a final words verdict that shown after the final two images that the reviewer has in their write up. Rather than an arbitrary point system we try to sum up if we think it is worth checking out, who the reviewer thinks may enjoy it, and what to watch out for if they do.

DIFFICULTY CURVE

A game's difficulty is rarely linear. Some get harder as you play, some games become easier, and sometimes war never changes.

The difficulty curve shown along the side column aims to show how the reviewer thought the game challenged them as they played, rather than an absolute difficulty over time.

Reading left to right: The higher the amount of squares, the greater the challenge.

A flat line means the difficulty stayed consistent over the course of the game. Something mostly flat but with peaks would mean there are challenges that spike up the difficulty at various points before continuing to normal. Games may even become easier as one progresses, causing the square block levels to drop as they move along.

We aim to describe what may of caused this in the write up for the game.

The directory containing all the ones we have used so far can be found here. The XCF is old, files are now generated using ImageMagick!
