2017-06-21: Carlsen Games' released an update with an extra level pack today. Brutally challenging, but still possible. Even for a slower player like myself, once I learnt the level patterns

140 was purchased for $2.50 with a steam coupon. I was able to complete the main game in just under an hour. While there is not a lot to talk about on this one, I wanted to write something about it as it was one enjoyable hour.

Using a minimal colour pallet to rather great effect the game looks better than the screenshots collected suggest. The background pulses to the game's soundtrack an the colour changes per level help keep it feeling fresh.

The aim is to jump around, collect small orbs, and bring them to a goal. There are 3 'worlds' in total, each with several increasingly difficult levels. Thankfully there are checkpoints so if you fail you don't have to redo a lot of stuff. To aid you is a musical beat that gives you an idea on when to move/jump. In later levels I also started tapping my left index finger to assist.

As the game progresses different hazards and obstacles appear. You get a small glimpse on the next level as each one is a variation on the previous. Starting with floating platforms, activated by touch platforms, timed walls, static and moving death squares, and eventually gravity effects.

Further along these begin to be combined: Jump onto a small square next to a death square, wait for the audio or background indicator, jump onto an expanding death square, and land on it when it appears solid.

It is not as difficult as I was expecting and while the puzzles are simple, getting them exact took a few attempts. Local distractions by others did not help and you still need an environment where you can concentrate.

There's also the boss battles. Which make great use of the minimal amount of content the game sets. Pang! Avoidance Runner, and a 4-directional shooter are all very fun to play.

The final level took me a few attempts as it throws a few twists at you (and people kept bothering me). But otherwise the game is easy enough to handle and not overly twitchy.

There's a mirror mode if you want an extra challenge. In this you get one life. If you die, you're back at the hub area to select a world and start from scratch. I'll admit that I died too much to attempt this, but it is nice for those wanting an ironman mode.

140 is a great little puzzle game. Short. Challenging enough while remaining easy to handle. And open to speed-runs. Well worth a look.
